Facebook is a very popular social networking site founded in 2004 by Mark
Zuckerberg. It initially targeted Harvard students, but was later
opened to other universities and then high schools. In 2006, Facebook
allowed everyone to join and also added a News Feed feature that would
broadcast changes in members' pages to all users identified in
their personal network of friends. It turned Facebook into a
personalized social news service.
We can consider Facebook as a social utility that helps people
communicate more efficiently with their friends,
family and coworkers. The company develops
technologies that facilitate the sharing of information
through the social graph, the digital mapping of people
real-world social connections.
Facebook has been averaging over
250,00 new registrations per day since
January of 2007 and active users are
doubling every 6 months.
