Mozilla Firefox is a modern web browser which was created by Mozilla in order to make their applications more competitive, in browsers field. Concretely Mozilla is a nonprofit institution which uses Firefox to help itself and distribute other applications and products of Mozilla project.

Before Firefox, Mozilla owned another application called Mozilla Application Suite and it was substituted by Firefox and Thunderbird (Mozilla’s message service). Its creation was announced in 2003, but it wasn’t until 2004 when the first version came up. This version was 1.0 version. Although the first Firefox came up in 2004, during 2002 and 2003 it had been commercialized with different names: Phoenix and Firebird. Then because of the problems arisen from the authenticity of the name it was changed to Firefox.

Over the years this browser has shown that it is one of the most competitive ones, if not the best. And this is a fact that has been backed up by different institutions and recognised with several awards. For instance: CNET Editors' Choice, Digital Lifestyle award, Forbes Best of the Web, PC World Product of the Year or the PC Pro Real World Award.

The most important Firefox features are:

1. - Quickness: This is one of the features that make Mozilla Firefox the best choice. One of the reasons is its independence, because when something goes wrong with Firefox, although it isn’t frequent, it only affects Firefox and not the whole operating system, and it makes our life easier because we don’t have to wait until everything comes back again to normalcy.

2. - Security: Firefox avoids the one possibility of falling into the hands of hackers when downloading or installing, because, unlike IE Explorer, it always asks us before taking that decisions. 

3. - POP-UPS: This feature may not seem very important, because right now it is carefully controlled, however in the beginning Firefox innovated with this because allowed you to decide even if you wanted or not to see the pop-ups and also go further and add the possibility to choose if you wanted to see the pop-ups only for an specific web page.

5.- Interaction: With Firefox you can completely personalise your browser. Moreover there exist some complements and extensions that you can install in your browser for different things, such as changing of window just by moving the mouse, downloading files from YouTube or translating words and full text.

6. - Quickly search: Firefox counts with a predetermined search tool similar to Google option “EnCache” that finds the words you input in the computer in the page you are visiting, making your search both easier and faster.

7. - Compatibility and Availability: Firefox is available for all the important platforms (Macintosh, Windows, Linux…) and translated to more than seventeen languages

In conclusion the phrase that best defines Firefox is the slogan used by its own web: “The Firefox Web Browser is the faster, more secure, and fully customizable way to surf the web.”
