Spam is the abuse of electronic
messaging systems, for example with the e-mails, or the social networks, to
send unsolicited bulk messages indiscriminately. The term is mostly applied to
similar abuses in other media: instant messaging, Usenet newsgroup spam, Web search engine spam, and spam in
blogs, online classified ads spam, and mobile phone messaging spam, Internet
forum spam, and file sharing network spam.
Spamming economically viable because advertisers can
make their publicity totally free and it is difficult to stop senders
accountable for their mass mailings. The costs, such as lost productivity and
fraud, are borne by the people and by Internet service distributors, which have
been forced to add extra capacity to cope with the deluge.
Spammer is the correct word
for people who create this kind of publicity.
