The Universal Serial Bus mass storage device is a really usefull and interesting way to store data. It uses the USB conection that the big mayority of computers have, (also used to conect other types of devices like mouses, keyboards, printers...).
The reason of the advantages of this device are simple: It is really easy to read by the computers, they can use it like a normal hard-disk and because of that it can be formated and used to store anything. It is also really simple and due to that we can find USB in cameras, MP3'S and other similar utilities.
This way of storing data is becoming more and more common, now almost everybody uses it, from teachers, to doctors, students or even policemen. Everybody has information and everybody wants to store it. This devices have replaced the old CD's they can be easily found in the market and it's capacity goes from 128 MG to even 256 GB(Really big USB's arent interesting because of their big cost).
The history of this device starts in 1996 when a lot of companys created the Universal Serial Bus. The first ones were big and the capacity was really small but little by little bigger ones were created.
Nowadays this small and really lift devices are commonly used, theorically they can be re-written a million times and store the information for 20 years without destroying it. Allthought they were first thought to store data now we can find in them programs and files of all kind of formats.
