Facebook is one of the so many social networking sites where everyone can share any type of information, play games and find people according to their personality and likings.
Mainly, this service allows people to communicate with their friends or family members, meet and know new people. As in many network sites, in Facebook, people post their personal data. This fact creates some controversy, specially in Facebook, due to the fake names and fake data introduced during the registration.
Facebook stands out for its wide content: you have access to games, quizzes of personality, events… It creates a whole world of entertainment: there are games about memory and trivial; the quizzes deal with any subject; the events are made to ask people to join something, for instance, groups of a concrete subject (for example, basketball lovers, etc).
History
It was created by Mark Zuckerberg, and his target was to develop a site for students from Harvard University, but nowadays, everyone who wants can access it.
This sort of webpage is based on the first social networking site, called Geocities. This last one was very successful some years ago, but it didn’t meet up with the expectations of Facebook, Myspace or Google Blogs.
Nowadays, more than 300 millions of user have joined Facebook, where they share all kind of information and entertainment applications.
Criticism
Facebook is a very famous site, popular worldwide, where the quantity of information shared is inimaginable. Thus, rumours about the manipulation of this information by Facebook or any other institution is in the order of the day. This fact has woken up some criticism and investigations about it. What is more, there has been cases of legal measuring against it.
Another critic about Facebook is the difficulty of erasing the personal data after introducing it. If we create an account and we register in this virtual space, later on the process of unregistering is too long, and maybe it’s not effective.
There was a case of a man, Nipon Das, who succeed in the erasing of the most of his information, but some time later, a reporter found his hole personal information again, in spite of the legal measuring that Nipon Das did against the people in charge of the site.
