Twitter is an internet-based application created with the aim of share personal or professional information with other users, mainly friends, using a system called
microblogging.
History
Twitter project started in March of 2006 by an american developer called Jack Dorsey, and it was launched publicly in August of 2006 by Obvious, but as the service grew instantly popular, Twitter Incorporated was founded.
Functionality
Twitter connects easily users by its 140 characters-messages, or tweets. They answer a kind-of-rhetoric question: “What’s happening?”, so friends (also known in Twitter as followers) of the user know what’s happening in its life.
Projects, studios, websites, firms, famous people, TV channels and programs or political parties use Twitter in order to stay connected electronically to their public.
That’s why worldwide news, spam and other personal stuff are tweeted at any time.
Another common use of tweets is known as Retweets (RT, tweets posted by an user and repeated by other user).
